|Aims & Scope||Employment Relations Today (ERT) is a quarterly journal dedicated to the human resources professional who must anticipate and meet the critical business and regulatory challenges posed by a fast-changing global economy and diverse workforce.|
ERT is a tool to help top-level HR administrators participate in formulating corporate goals and human resources programs that meet those goals.
Through New Ideas and Features, ERT presents concrete solutions that practitioners have found to work in solving specific workplace problems. It addresses the complex practicalities of dealing with diverse employees; creating a corporate culture attuned to today’s competitive, global business environment; designing appropriate organizational structures; responding to the economic forces that have altered traditional employer-employee relationships; and utilizing technology most effectively.
Through regularly appearing Departments, ERT covers the latest federal and state, legal, and regulatory developments that affect a multiplicity of human resources policies and practices.
The mission of ERT is to provide practically oriented articles that reflect the full scope of the HR function. Essentially, we try to provide a real-life approach to solving problems or addressing issues that are common to HR managers of most organizations. An important aspect of this is to offer detailed examples or case studies that show the approaches used by specific companies or businesses.
Each volume includes a broad scope of HR topics that are presented by a variety of field experts.
Topics include a wide range of HR-related interests and responsibilities dealing with both the HR profession and issues related to serving the best interests of both employees and organization executives. Topics range from leadership and management best practices to employee engagement and productivity to HR analytics.
ERT is intended to keep readers current with a wide range of external forces affecting work and to provide practitioners with in-depth views of current strategies that are most effective for organizations that must compete and succeed in a global and quickly changing business landscape.
An ERT volume comprises seven contributed articles from HR experts that fall into two broad categories: NEW IDEAS and FEATURES. The NEW IDEAS section may include unusual HR-topics that are not explored often; “think pieces” that explore HR trends; and articles that focus on information extrapolated from recent employment-related studies and surveys. The FEATURES section of the journal provides detailed articles that encompass all HR practice areas, such as attracting, hiring, and retaining employees; preserving the organization’s knowledge base; talent management; managing a multigenerational workforce; increasing employee skills and productivity; training; employee benefits; HR technology; and strategic planning.
A third section of the journal includes five regularly appearing Departments that cover employment law and regulatory updates on both the federal and state level; key court cases; workflow and project-portfolio management; and commonly asked questions about employee relations.
The word count for New Ideas and Features generally ranges from 3,000 to 4,000 words; the word count for Departments ranges from 2,000 to 3,000 words.
The targeted audience for the journal is primarily upper-level HR managers but also includes HR administrators at all levels, supporting consultancies, employment-law attorneys, and business executives and managers whose responsibilities intersect the HR function.
